In October 2018, Dechinta team members were invited to Whitehorse to testify in front of the 2018 Standing Committee on Finance. Dechinta emphasized the importance of Indigenous-led northern education.
In the recently released Finance Committee Report, recommendation 55 states:
"Support the expansion of post-secondary education delivered in the territories and remote communities, including community-based research and programming, to ensure a sustained, culturally-safe, post-secondary option for Indigenous students and their families."
We continue to lobby the federal government to recognized the importance of supporting land-based post-secondary education so that Indigenous students can continue their education with their families, and in their own communities.
