Dr. Kim Tallbear (Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate) (she/her) is Professor and Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Peoples, Technoscience, and Society, Faculty of Native Studies, University of Alberta. In the last decade, in addition to studying genomics and other scientific and technological disruptions and challenges to Indigenous lands, self-definitions, and governance, Dr. Tallbear has turned her attention to colonial disruptions to Indigenous sexual and kin relations. She has published and spoken widely on the role of compulsory marriage, monogamy, and heterosexuality in relation to private property in settler-colonialism in the US and Canada. In 2015, she co-founded the Edmonton-based sexy storytelling and cabaret show Tipi Confessions with co-producers Kristen Lindquist and Dr. Tracy Bear. Dr. Tallbear blogs and tweets as The Critical Polyamorist about indigenous, racial, and cultural politics related to open non-monogamy. She is a prairie loving, big sky woman. She lives south of the Arctic Circle, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

T’áncháy Redvers is a Dene & Métis two-spirit writer, creator, and multidisciplinary performer belonging to Deninu K’ue First Nation in Treaty 8 territory. As a performance artist and drag king by the name of Midnight Wolverine, they have brought Indigiqueer representation to North American festivals and stages.

Ames Val is a queer adopted Dene from the Dehcho in NWT, who grew up mostly in Whitehorse. They love jokes,  real talks, and moody, low-key drag.

​

Have you ever been interested in exploring gender expression in a new way? Join Dene & Métis two-spirit drag king & performance artist, T’áncháy Redvers, otherwise known as Midnight Wolverine, to creatively explore the diversity of gender expression in a playful and safe space. In this experiential workshop, T’áncháy will share their own gender exploration journey as an Indigiqueer performer; help decolonize understandings of gender & sexuality; and guide participants to discover the joy of femininity, masculinity, and everything in between.

 

Participants will receive a makeup kit for the workshop. Please feel free to wear something that makes you feel good, and let us know if you have any accessibility needs.
