Land Based Academic and Regional Coordinator (Yellowknife/Denendeh)
The Dechinta Centre for Research and Learning is hiring a Land Based Academic and Regional Coordinator for Yellowknife/Denendeh, based out of our office in Yellowknife.
Primary Responsibilities
Dechinta program design and delivery: Design, develop and deliver culturally appropriate Indigenous led land-based and experiential programming that compliment and reinforce the academic learning outcomes delivered by Dechinta faculty so that students are enabled for success.
Working with the faculty, identify opportunities to deconstruct complex academic concepts that can be simplified or reinforced through the delivery of land-based programs
Working with Elders, identify opportunities to share traditional Indigenous practices and co-create land-based, experiential learning opportunities that enable student success.
Design, develop and deliver land-based experiential learning solutions to students in partnership with Elders, ensuring that programs are informed by northern Indigenous values, principles, and cultural practices
Gather, maintain, and build a curriculum of land-based programs and activities that can be integrated through the academic year and used as part of community outreach efforts.
Create capacity for the Elder to be successful in the delivery of their teachings so that the learning experience is a successful one for both the Elder and the students.
Provide support to either the Elder or Student through the program/activity by answering questions or addressing concerns so that everyone is engaged and feeling well supported throughout the experience.
Provide emergency first aid (physical and/or psychological) as required to support the health and wellbeing of students and Elders.
Elder Engagement: Develop, maintain, and strengthen relationships with community Elders that would like to partner with Dechinta to deliver land-based and experiential learning so that Dechinta's programming is informed by northern Indigenous values, principles, and cultural practices.
Develop and maintain a list of Elder teaching strengths and preferences so that Dechinta has an understanding of opportunities for ongoing collaboration through educational programs or community outreach efforts.
Facilitate and engage in opportunities to build and strengthen relationships between Dechinta employees & faculty with Elders and community partners.
Maintain regular contact and communication with Elders so they feel valued and engaged in Dechinta's work and ready to work with Dechinta as opportunities arise.
Community outreach and programming: Identify, engage, and collaborate with values aligned community partners to advance shared goals and objectives.
Proactively build relationships with values aligned community partners where collaboration results in the achievement of shared goals and objectives.
Deliver Dechinta land-based programs/activities to community partners, ensuring that the services provided aligns to Dechinta's goals and objectives and funding requirements

Position is full time, located in Yellowknife and includes an RRSP matching and benefits.
Starting salary of $72,500 but negotiable based on experience.

Executive Director Position
We are seeking a strategic and people-centred Executive Director with experience in Indigenous land-based education, organizational leadership, and cross-sector collaboration. This is a meaningful opportunity for an individual who thrives in supporting teams and organizations as they navigate growth and organizational change. Reporting to the Board of Directors, you will work closely with the Dechinta community to advance strategic priorities and bring the organization’s vision to life.
Dechinta is at an important crossroad in its organizational journey, and the new Executive Director will be key in supporting the organization in securing new short and long term funding relationships and exploring what’s needed to further deepen Dechinta’s impacts. You will use your people centred approach, deep listening skills, and draw on your past experience and networks to build the reach of Dechinta in the north, including with various levels of government and post-secondary educational institutions. As a key ambassador and representative of the organization, you will continue to raise the organization’s profile and deepen engagement with Elders, community members, academic & research partners, funding partners, students, and all of Dechinta’s key audiences and constituencies.
