Indigenous Self-Determination Courses in Partnership with Kwanlin Dün - APPLY BY JUNE 1ST, 2025
October 20th – October 31st, 2025, (Jackson Lake Healing Camp, Yukon)
Get credit for two university courses while learning about Kwanlin Dün First Nation culture, history and politics on the land with local Elders, community members and fellow students! During this program, you will take two university courses at the same time in the span of 10 days. These courses are intensive, land-based courses and will be offered by Dechinta Centre for Research and Learning with Kwanlin Dün First Nation.
These courses will involve land-based and cultural practices, as well as university lectures from Kwanlin Dün knowledge holders. As a student, you will spend a significant amount of time on the land learning skills, harvesting, and engaging with Elders. You will also spend time doing ‘classroom work’, where you will learn about Indigenous governance and self-determination. This combination of culturally-informed, land-based learning and academic work sets Dechinta apart from other university experiences!
No previous experience with university is necessary! These courses are university-accredited, and can be transferred to most post-secondary institutions in Canada -- including Yukon University.
Funding for KDFN Citizens available
Childcare and onsite accommodations are provided
All age, skill, and education levels are welcome to apply (this is an 18+ program)
In attending this program, you will receive 6 university credits for the following courses at the University of British Columbia:

INLB 220: Land and Indigenous Self-Determination: Introduction to Methods and Application
